What you should know about dog bites

Our Milwaukee readers may not know that the week of May 20-26 is National Dog Bite Prevention week. A dog bite, or any animal bite, can be painful and leave scars or in extreme cases can cause death. A number of experts have taken Dog Bite Prevention week as an opportunity to raise awareness about dog bites and what to do to prevent them.

According to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs each year. Of those, 800,000 seek some form of medical treatment, 386,000 are treated in emergency rooms and sadly, 16 die each year from dog bites. About half of those bitten are children. The second most vulnerable age group is the elderly.

Balcony gives way, Marquette student injured in fall

One of the reasons we have insurance is to protect us in the event of an accident. Our driver's insurance protects us, our cars and our passengers. Homeowners insurance protects our home in Milwaukee. However, when we are on someone else's property, or in a public building, we depend upon the building owner to protect us by maintaining the building's safety.

A Marquette University student was recently injured in a falling accident. The student was in an off-campus apartment building when a balcony railing gave way and the student plummeted to the ground below. In this case the building owner may be held liable if the owner's negligence led to the personal injury of the student.

Milwaukee mother and son die, mere hours and miles apart

Most fatal car accidents are a tragedy to the family of those who died. A recent pair of Milwaukee car accidents is a tragedy that captured the nation's attention -- and for good reason.

News sources tell the story of a mother and her son who both died as a result of fatal car accidents in Milwaukee. The mother was in the hospital as her son attempted to reach her, but he died as a result of an accident on the way to see her. Alcohol was involved in both fatalities.

Milwaukee woman charged in fatal car accident

One of the few places in which we feel safe is probably our home. Many view their home as their sanctuary. For one woman in South Bend, Indiana, sleeping on the couch in her home turned fatal in an accident that many would view as highly unlikely.

According to news sources, a 23-year-old woman from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was involved in a car accident in which she crashed her car into the home of 57-year-old woman who was asleep on the couch. The car accident resulted in fatal injuries for the 57-year-old woman, whose dog was also killed in the crash.
